I'm Adjoa, a self-taught visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

I started painting seriously in 2019. Now I spend a lot of my hours convincing high school kids that art is not a waste of time.

To me, art is about doing what you wanna do. It’s freedom.

My work is typically vibrant and expressive. I love playing with contrast and shapes. Oftentimes I concentrate on portraiture: I see the human face as a narrative site, a culmination of emotion.

I can’t focus on any one thing and float from one medium to the next. I started out with watercolours, added coloured pencils, dabbled in markers and ink, committed to acrylic painting for a bit and recently swerved towards oils.

I’m only just beginning to learn. Who knows what I’ll be making in the future.
